ADDIS ABABA: Editors’ Guild of Ethiopia (EGE), in collaboration with the Consortium for Safety of Journalists (CSOJ) and with support from International Media Support (IMS), has released its latest quarterly report on the state of media and the safety of journalists in Ethiopia, covering the period from June to August 2025.

The report presents a detailed analysis of the risks confronting Ethiopian journalists, including arbitrary arrests, detentions, kidnappings, harassment, and newsroom raids. Drawing on verified data from local and international sources such as sojethiopia.org, CPJ, IPI, IFEX, HRW, and RSF, the findings highlight an increasingly restrictive and dangerous environment for media professionals.

Compared to the previous reporting period (March – May 2025), the June – August assessment reveals further escalation, with cases of abduction, enforced disappearance, and disregard for court-ordered releases, underscoring mounting threats to press freedom.

EGE underscores the urgent need for legal, institutional, and practical safeguards to protect journalists, strengthen accountability, and safeguard independent reporting. These reports provide vital evidence-based advocacy tools for national and international stakeholders working to ensure a free and safe media environment in Ethiopia.
